Tina & Sebastian’s Beautiful Wedding In The Heart Of Zurich - Stadthaus, Grossmünsterkapelle, Riithalle Restaurant

Day 1

One of the favourite weddings of last Summer. I love when couples extend the celebration over several days - more opportunities to change dresses, meet friends and have parties. On the first day the couple said yes at the Stadthaus Zürich. It's always held in the same room, adorned with dark red wood, featuring the painting “Fiancés” by my favorite artist, Marc Chagall, and the glass panes “Marriage of the Virgin,” designed by Augusto Giacometti. With so many other amazing rooms in the building, I often wonder why they don't utilize some of the others as well. Nonetheless, each visit reveals more of the beauty within this magnificent building, no matter how many weddings I have photographed here before. Did you know that the City Hall of Zurich (Rathaus Zürich) and the Stadthaus of Zurich are not the same? While both are significant buildings within the city, they serve different functions and have distinct historical backgrounds and to to get married you need to go to the Stadthaus.
The Stadthaus of Zurich, an emblematic building known for its administrative functions and Neo-Baroque architecture, was built between 1883 and 1886. The architect behind this impressive structure was Gustav Gull, who played a significant role in shaping the architectural landscape of Zurich during that period. Gull's design for the Stadthaus was selected through a competition, and his vision was to create a building that not only served its administrative purpose but also contributed to the beauty and dignity of the city. The Stadthaus of Zurich is distinguished by its elegant facade, which features ornate stonework, sculptures, and reliefs that depict various aspects of Zurich's history and civic life. One of the building's notable architectural details is its spacious atrium, which is often used for public exhibitions and events. The interiors are adorned with frescoes, stucco decorations, and intricate woodwork, making it a fine example of Neo-Baroque architecture.

Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests embarked on continuation of their celebration aboard a boat, journeying towards a gorgeous villa by Lake Zurich. There, surrounded by the beauty of its lush garden, they went for a swim and enjoyed a perfect summer day with their nearest and dearest in the atmosphere filled with laughter and joy.

Day 2

In Zurich's vibrant heart, the historic Grossmünster Kapelle hosted a wedding ceremony that beautifully combined traditional charm with a touch of whimsy. The chapel was elegantly decorated with sweeping greenery, creating a modern, yet timeless setting for the couple's vows. The bridesmaids, in fairy-inspired attire, brought a playful and light-hearted spirit to the event. After the ceremony, the celebration continued outside the Grossmünster, where guests enjoyed a relaxed aperitif with the stunning cathedral as their backdrop. The festivities then moved through Zurich's lively streets, as the wedding party and guests made their way to the Riithalle restaurant for the reception. The bride stood out in her contemporary two-piece dress from the local boutique Hera, perfectly blending urban sophistication with a nod to tradition. This journey from the Grossmünster to the Riithalle captured the essence of a modern Zurich wedding: a blend of the city's rich history and the easy elegance of today's celebrations, all while surrounded by the warmth and happiness of friends and family.
